Bishop O’Dowd

Bishop O’Dowd

Oakland, CA

The 20-acre Bishop O’Dowd campus, with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay, recently added a 36,000-square-foot multi-story structure to modernize and enhance the student, athlete, and community experience. The new leading-edge structure offers athletic facilities and studios for music and theater.

The new build features BŌK’s panels that coil around the new staircase in a custom bright yellow — using a Kynar finish — inspired by the school’s mascot, the Dragon. Bok’s panel-to-panel joints were designed perpendicular to the stair stringer slope, with a custom pattern to mimic dragon scales.

A complementary custom slot and tab system was used to wrap a column with a similar pattern motif with a simplified bracket design, making it easy to install in the field.

The new campus structure expands the available space by just under twenty percent and will be able to host the entire school in one space.
