The new 90,000 gross square foot School of Medicine Building II at The University of California, Riverside, opened in the fall of 2023, landing on its 10th anniversary. CO Architects and Hensel Phelps partnered to design a flexible and adaptable five-story facility with a nod toward future growth and change. The new space will offer collaborative spaces for students, faculty, and staff and complement the surrounding buildings.
The design includes an outdoor plaza with ample seating areas, serene landscaping, and balconies to unify and define the School of Medicine. BŌK’s wall screens, stair guardrail, and sunshade add to the urban downtown theme, hiding essential yet unsightly external staircases. Unistrut was used to allow for easy adjustments in the field during installation.
