A part of the Stanford Research Park, this affordable housing unit contributes to its community with a corner café and services for the visually impaired. Working with David Baker Architects, the BŌK Modern team collaborated to conceptualize the unit’s quirks. Features such as Cor-Ten wall screens and fences emulate the appearance of age. The anodized aluminum of the balconies and sunshields juxtaposes the Core-Ten with its brilliance and contemporary rectangular cutouts.

Parking garage screens installed in Downtown Los Angeles, this high-rise residential tower sits on 4 levels of above ground parking.

BŌK Modern provided the screening of the parking garage in a custom pattern by the architects, SCB Architects of San Francisco.

The screen walls have tilt out at both the top and the bottom from a diagonal slot across the face of the building. This was achieved by attaching our panels to shaped vertical fins which were attached directly to the edge of slabs.

FIVE88

Another signature project by David Baker Architects, FIVE88 is a new market rate apartment complex located in the new Mission Bay Development South of downtown San Francisco adjacent to the Historic Shipyards.

The dramatic feature Cor-ten Steel facade utilizes BŌK Modern’s patented ‘easy-install’ rainscreen reminiscent of the rusting hull of a ship.

Sunshading panels were attached directly to the rainscreens giving shadows and depth while strategically placed perforations allow unit venting to be concealed behind the panels.

Elsewhere on the project, Anodized aluminum guard rails and sunshades, using the same pattern, gives depth and interest to an otherwise minimal facade.

1500 Mission Canopy BŌK was initially asked to provide panels only to clad a fabricated truss system that cantilevered out from the street 25 feet typical and 40 feet at the corner. Due to costs exceeding the budget, BŌK designed an alternative system that utilizes folded plate to emulate the truss system dramatically reducing the cost of the canopy while also providing a much better aesthetic. Mission Bay Block 9A

Mission Bay Block 9A is an 8-story building showcasing several of BŌK Modern’s signature architectural systems. The project features Bracketed Sunshades, which span seamlessly from floor to floor, reinforcing the building’s vertical rhythm while enhancing solar performance. At the rooftop, a centrally supported trellis, suspended by rod and clevis hangers, creates the illusion of a floating plane with minimal structural interference. Also featured are BŌK Modern’s custom Garage Screens—a unique alternative to conventional designs. These vertical macro-louvered panels provide a bold three-dimensional appearance with approximately 50% openness, effectively screening vehicles while contributing to the building’s sculptural identity. BŌK’s innovative A51 pattern is a key design element throughout the project, casting dynamic shadows that animate the façade and elevate the building’s visual impact.

For this community housing effort at 833 Bryant Street in San Francisco, BŌK Modern has fabricated striking, three-dimensional façade screens which cover all elevations of the building.
